A lovely day in Sydney

We finally landed in Sydney around 9am. Our flight was delayed last night until 11:45 because apparently, 24 hours is not enough time for United to figure out a runway for us to take off from. The flight was uneventful although we didn't have a aisle seat and didn't get to move around much due to the fact that the little old lady at the end of our row had a bladder of an elephant. After we finally landed, they announced that we were going to have to sit for 40 minutes on the plane because there was not an open gate. Again, you think they would have had enough lead time to figure this out as well. Well, the powers at be must have felt the anarchy that was simmering and miraculously found a gate within 5 minutes. After clearing customs, we had just enough time to speed in a taxi to the bike tour company with 15 minutes to spare.

The bike tour was fun. It was 4 hours and we biked all around Sydney to major attractions like the Sydney Opera house, the bridge, some churches, parks, and monuments. The weather was perfect and it we are so glad that we got to do the tour.

After a nap and a much needed shower, it was a short walk from our hotel to Darling Harbor where there are many restaurants. We ate at Nick's and enjoyed some great seafood. We had great seats to see the fireworks that they shot off from the Harbor - unexpected entertainment!

We have an early flight tomorrow morning to Adelaide. Unfortunately, I just discovered things missing from my suitcase which was supposedly locked up at the bike tour office. Weird things are missing: a magazine, socks, chocolate, 2 chargers, my glasses...I guess I'm going to have to call the bike company in the morning. It's too bad that there are people in this world that have to resort to this kind of petty crime. Curiously, they didn't steal my knitting or jewelry - but chocolate? That is pretty low.

  1. Wow, Donna and Don...this is quite the adventure you are having!!! And, I'm trying to say that with as much positivity as I can! Keep up the good spirits and enjoy yourself "down under"...even though things aren't exactly going the way you hoped they would (my goodness!)!!! :)
